Siena College – Reroofing with Fleece Backed TPO For Maximum Durability

Client

Siena College Marcelle Athletic Complex (MAC)
Loudonville, NY

Existing Roof

65,000 SF Deteriorated Single-Ply Membrane Roof System

Problem

The existing roofing membrane was exhibiting premature failure, becoming increasingly brittle, with noticeable cracks in about 20 locations.  Foul balls from the adjacent baseball field were causing “spider-web” cracks contributing to increased roof leaks.

Solution

Fleece-backed reinforced TPO 115-mil Roofing System.

Application

After careful evaluation, it was determined that the existing roofing system could be left in place.  Key product selection criteria included providing a system with superior durability, and one that would prove aesthetically pleasing for this large highly visible structure.

After installing a high compressive strength recover board, a fleece-backed TPO roofing membrane with a total thickness of 115 mils was installed.  The fleece-backed membrane was fully adhered to the new substrate with a spray-applied low-rise polyurethane foam adhesive, providing exceptional wind-uplift resistance, added durability and sealing of all joints in the underlying substrate.

Results & Owners Comments

In addition to an extremely tough, durable system, the new fleece-backed TPO membrane offers the added protection of heat-welded seams.  Being white and highly reflective, the new ENERGY STAR® rated system also contributes to annual energy savings through reduced air-conditioning costs.

Having worked with S. D. Carruthers on prior occasions, Siena was particularly pleased with the outcome of this highly visible project, commenting:
